Enable 2-Step Verification with Google or Gmail App Prompts
This article will walk you through the steps to enable 2-Step Verification (also known as Two-Factor Authentication or 2FA) on your Stevenson Google account, using the Google or Gmail apps on your mobile device. As 2-Step Verification is most seamless when integrated with a device you always have with you, it is recommended you install the Google or Gmail app on your mobile phone and use your mobile number as a backup option for the best experience.
Prerequisites: Before getting started, you will need the following...
- Your Stevenson Google account credentials.
- Access to your mobile device.
- Google or Gmail app installed on your mobile device.
- Sign in to the Google or Gmail app on your mobile device with your Stevenson Google account.
Install Google or Gmail App on your Mobile Device
On your mobile device, search the App Store or Google Play Store for the Google app or Gmail app, and install it.

When the Google or Gmail app is installed on your mobile device, sign in to the app with your Stevenson Google account.
Enable 2-Step Verification on Your Google Account with Google or Gmail App Prompts
Enabling 2-Step Verification is easy and will protect your Google account, as well as any services using Google for authentication. Using the Google or Gmail app to receive 2-Step Verification prompts is the most secure method of 2-Step Verification Google offers.
Before enabling 2-Step Verification on your account, double-check the Google or Gmail app is installed on your mobile device and signed into with your Stevenson Google account.
To enable 2-Step Verification, open a web browser, and visit https://accounts.google.com. Sign in to your Stevenson Google account (if you're not already signed in).
Once logged into Google, click your profile icon in the upper-right corner of the window, then click the Manage your Google Account button.
On the Google Account page, click the Security link on the left side of the page.
On the Security page, scroll down to the Signing Into Google section, click the 2-Step Verification option.
Click the GET STARTED button on the Protect your account with 2-Step Verification page, and when prompted enter the password for your Stevenson Google account.
Even though you are already signed into your Stevenson Google account, for security reasons you will be asked to enter your password again. Enter your password and click the NEXT button.
You will now set up your mobile device as the second step to log in. Verify your mobile device is listed (circled in green), and click the CONTINUE button. This will set your Stevenson Google account to use the Google or Gmail app on your mobile device for 2-Step Verification.
Note: If your mobile device is not listed, click the Don’t see your device? link. Follow the instructions to verify you have signed into the Google or Gmail app, with your Stevenson Google account, on your mobile device then click the TRY AGAIN link.
You must now configure a backup option for 2-Step Verification. Enter your phone number, select the method for receiving codes (Text message is highly recommended), and click SEND.
Google will send a text message or call the number entered, and provide a 6-digit code. Enter the 6-digit code, and click the NEXT button.
Google will confirm the verification code, and show the default 2-Step Verification option, as well as the backup option. Click the TURN ON button to enable 2-Step Verification on your Stevenson Google account.
Note: When 2-Step Verification is enabled on your Google account, if you have signed into the Google or Gmail app on your mobile device, it will automatically be the default 2-Step Verification method (as it is the most secure).
Your Stevenson Google account is now secured with 2-Step Verification.
